…aaaand I’m back! “8.5hr drive” sounds like alot. It can be depending on the terrain. But driving highway 5 from Northern California to Cape Lookout on the Oregon Coast, wasn’t awful. If you’ve done it, you know. It’s mostly straight and flat. You pass Lake Shasta heading north and before you know it, you’re going west, up and over the coastal range. There’s no shortage of green. That may be what I’ve enjoyed about driving northwest… it’s green and eventually you meet the ocean.

Zero day for Jason = chance to share the magic beach portal! As promised, Netarts is an estuarine bay fed by multiple creeks of the nearby watershed. Due to tidal changes, intensity of blues and greens will vary since the depth is always changing.

We spotted sea lions, had a blast exploring Lost Boy Beach, had a delicious lunch at Current Cafe, and another awesome sunset at camp. (Photo of me on the beach was taken by Jason)

During this trip, as Jason plugged away at OCT miles, I was enjoying my own adventures & sorting logistics. I’ve always had a knack for coordinating the where/what/how. Some days I’d drive ahead and scout trail conditions/access, campsites, and more. On this day we moved to what easily became one of our favorite campsites. Located just outside the Cascade Head boundary, the amenities and price could not be beat, plus BUNNIES!
We also visited Pelican brewing for the 1st time 🤤

Hang at camp day. As mentioned, the amenities at the campground were excellent. We took advantage of the pool and played a few rounds of a water version of the basketball game HORSE. It was actually alot of fun to just spend a few hours playing like a kid again. Surprisingly, I took no photos of the pool. Pool activity makes a person really hungry, so we went back to pelicanbrewing.com. The Pacific City location is right on the beach, with a great view, vibe and delicious everything.
4/26/2025
This day, I conquered “The Great Dune” located at Cape Kiwanda. Multiple days passing by, created a great desire to hike 250 feet to the top. Jason and I made our way up, 2 steps for every 1, and what we found at the top was incredible. There were so many different spots to look out over the vigorous waves below. Loud “booms” echoed as they crashed into the caves below.

I proposed a sidequest for Jason, who was taking a bit of slower pace today. In a past trip, I had visited Drift Creek Falls so I knew it was nearby and a good match to that energy. Visiting during a different season, presented an opportunity to see flora I’ve never seen!
The trail follows the north fork until you reach the suspension bridge, hanging 100ft above the canyon floor, right next to the falls. Another spot that was best captured by video.
